Well, unless your colleagues are American, I don't see that being a fair test of the car's ability to be recognized as a Mustang. There just aren't that many mustangs in Europe for any European to discern it's styling as such.
Now, let's assume that your colleagues are actually born and raised Americans. Actually, let's assume that such a test was conducted here in the States. To be fair, even then people might think it's something other than a mustang. Ultimately, my point is that you can show any number of people as many generations of mustang you want, and you'll still have people that think it's something else. The only people with which such a test should be conducted is a group of car enthusiasts. They will undoubtedly discern this new design as a Mustang. I'm sorry, but I don't feel it looks like any thing other than a mustang, for the most part anyway. Maybe if you're placed inside the cabin without badges on the steering wheel and without seeing the car prior you might think it's a Jaguar
