So assuming GT to GT they lost 200 lbs thats 3418 for the manual GT and puts it in Corvette territory. That would be pretty sweet for Mustang performance and a nightmare for the current Camaro and Challenger.

But did the GT really lose that much weight? Or is Ford comparing the new ecoboost Stang to say...last years V6 model or something like that? We'll see soon enough.

But I agree if the GT is in the 3,400ish lb range, I don't know if GM can reach that on their V8 model even on the Alpha chasis. The current ATS with V6 weighs in the 3,400lb range. Add a V8 and beefier driveline to that and your well into the 3,500 and maybe 3,600 range. If this is the case GM will need to put the LT1 with Corvette-like power in it to be even in a straight line with the Mustang. Thats assuming the 5.0 will have 430 HP like some are saying.

You have to remember the ATS still has quite a bit of areas that can shed weight. Most of the body is still steel except for the hood. The control arms are all steel, etc. GM is not going to go as extensive on the interior and options, so there will be costs cut from there in which they could invest towards weight reduction by changing materials. a 3300-3400 lb Camaro SS is definitely not out of the question at all. Plus when shifting the platform to 2 door you can a lot of times shed weight.

I really don't think it would be difficult for GM to make a 3300lb Camaro SS with the alpha platform.
