She arrived on a VISITORS visa...She had become an overstay. Her Permit (depending on what type) allows her to be here TO VISIT for the alloted amount of time. She is an overstay. You speak of the illegals from Mexico but in the same breath you want an exception because she is your friend. She broke the law when the visa expired. She and the "illegal immigrants from Mexico, many of which have questionable character and goals and have suffered no ill from their own government" are painted by the same brush in the eyes of the US Government. She arrived here on false pretense as a visitor. She is an overstay and be it Mexican, Egyptian, or Martian, they are subject to deportation. I AM NOT SAYING IT IS THE SAME, but do you realize that the terrorists that were involved with September 11th were overstays on a student visa? What was the #1 complaint when it happened? Why does our government not deport these people? You cannot pick and choose. The law states in laymans terms, you break it, you are penalized.
I know the human element in this will cause people to look at the "AWWW poor thing" side of it, but, IT IS A LAW. My parents were immigrants and they waited and jumped through the hoops. Their reward? they are and always will be US Citizens. I really like Disneyland, but if I go in as a visitor, when it's time for me to leave, no matter how many memories I have on Space Mountain, I have to leave. If I stay there, I will get booted out no matter HOW bad my home sucks. If I want to go back, much like this site, I follow the rules and don't get banned.
She was a visitor, she was supposed to leave. I feel for her, but EVERYONE must play by the rules.
