I do have the "base" exhaust on my Stingray. Yes, it is rather quiet at idle and at mild throttle. But mash the pedal, and the exhaust comes alive! I'm happy with it. Should I decide in the future for a little more rumble, I can always go with a Corsa or Magnaflow or such, and for about the same money (you KNOW there will be a lot of aftermarket options soon!).
Both exhaust systems have a set of valves forward of the mufflers, to enhance the sound in 4-cylinder mode. The NPP then has a second set of valves between the mufflers and tips. Both sets are computer controlled.
