Another thing that makes it possible for Ferrari to build an engine like this is the lack of bean counters. There is no one telling them they have to save money in this area or that, just make a great car. If GM or Ford were given the ability to just build an awesome car and not worry about the price, I think you could see the same things from them. Ferrari knows they will sell EVERY car they make at whatever price they want.
I have a friend who owns a 360, he got on the list for a 430 when it was announced. Ferrari went through the entire production run and he never got called. He even had his deposit placed just to be on the list. He was finally called and asked if he wanted his money back or would he like to be placed on the list for a 458. He got his money back and passed. But imagine that for a second. A list with a deposit for every car you're going to make, before you even make the car!
I have been fortunate enough to drive 4 models of Ferrari. California, 360, 430, and 458, all on a racetrack and without someone reigning me in. I have to say that they were all amazing, but that 458 is un-effing-real! Easily the fastest, best handling, most dynamic car I have ever driven. Even on the few occaisions when I have had a choice of a Lambo or Ferrari, the Ferrari gets me every time.
