Second, it's just common sense that you don't walk around your neighborhood or even your front yard carrying one, and you definitely shouldn't raise it towards a police officer.
So as sad as this is, it was the kid's own damn fault.

Agreed 100%. Great rule of thumb: do what the cops tell you to do, no questions asked. You can deal with improper treatment later; death is permanent.
