If you look at it from acting ability... it is a close one but I think Pacino has done better work and more serious parts.
From a gangster point of view De Niro has done more gang movies with his buddy Joe Pesci.
From the Godfather movies Stand point it goes to Pacino he was in all three and was incredible.
So to me it's a 2 to 1 victory for Pacino. In reality though I can't imagine a Hollywood without the both of them.
