Its not entirely without some president. Terminator was, I'm sure, closer than Chevy liked to the non Z06 '02-'04 Vettes. Not that they were equal mind you, just that there was only a small performance gap.
Either way, you state that it would be a major change, and I believe that's what we're looking at. A "new" platform for Mustang developed with knowledge gained from programs like Boss302 (LS, S, & R) and FR500 (S, C, & GT) before that. Integration of ILIRS, as opposed to the heavily compromised IRS attempt of the SN95 age. DWIFS to move away from the ever aging MacPherson Strut design. Add to that the
rumors of things like the "Voodoo" V8 and platform weight loss (even if it's not the overzealously stated 400lbs) can only improve the breed. As a car in Mustangs position stands, if they exceed Camaro's performance barrier there is only the next echelon of cars to compair it to (e.g. Corvette, Viper, etc.)
