Theres a lot more to that story. The FXX program basically allows you to pay to become a Ferrari test driver. You buy the car but it is completely not street legal. With that purchase you get storage, maintanace and transportation. They bring the cars to the track, you go there and race it around, they use onboard telemetry and input from Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, and Michael Schumacher to improve the car. They modify them while in storage, and then hold another event. There were 33 built and they updated all of them heavily for 2008 and even jacked the HP from 800 to 860. They test out all their new technology on these cars. As well if you want to use it for a private track day, Ferrari will prep and transport your car to wherever you will be running it.
Only Ferrari can get people to pay millions of dollars to help them build better and faster cars!
