Many of our officer members have said that if you are respectful and decent, you stand a better chance.........that would be a better chance of getting your side heard, getting to explain your self, even a better chance of just getting a warning.

However, I do not recall any of them (please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), in any of the threads saying "you better act like a whipped dog if you want any chance of getting out of the ticket". That just isn't the case.

Everyone is the same really....if someone acts like a dick or an ass to you, you react the same way. It just takes some people longer to return the attitude. Some people have incentives to keep it civil (i.e. officers not really wanting to get sued, reported, written up, whatever....), plus, I'm sure some training, in how to deal with such people, so they can "take it" a little better than your average person. That doesn't mean they should have to "take it".

I'm not saying officers are above the law (I too have seen plenty of them break the speed limit, run stop signs, etc). Nor am I saying that someone they pull over should have to bow down and kiss their feet. But, when you get pulled over, there is no reason to be an ass to the officer. They are just doing their job. Why not just be civil, respectful, whatever you want to call it and increase your chances of getting out of it altogether. Bitch about the stop/officer all you want after the fact.

Sorry, I don't agree with the attitude that you should get to say what you want or act however you want. If you got pulled over, it is almost a guarantee you were the one in the wrong and should probably get a ticket for it. Given that our officer friends here on Camaro5 have offered suggestions as to how to "take advantage of officer discretion", I think you should thank them for the advice and use it if needed. Or, you can be an asshole and get the ticket and treatment you deserve.
