Bargaining Will Continue Into The Night

CAW nearing talks deadline with GM, Chrysler
The Canadian Auto Workers could abandon trying to get early contract deals with General Motors and Chrysler LLC if progress is not made in negotiations by this evening. The union set the deadline on Monday, saying that if headway on new three-year deals is not made, negotiations would be suspended until later in the summer, when the union will be in a position to set a strike deadline.

CAW bargaining with General Motors and Chrysler will continue into the night. An agreement could not be reached by Wednesday's 6 p.m. deadline, but CAW President Buzz Hargrove said that CAW representatives at both companies are working hard to reach a deal. He said that there are a few key issues that both companies still need to address.

On Thursday, May 8, negotiations began between the CAW and General Motors and on Monday, May 12, negotiations got under way between the CAW and Chrysler.
