The locals make one or two "cruises" a year to the last standing drive-in movie theater in Southern Nevada, possibly the last one in the entire state.
We bring chairs, blankets, coolers and boom boxes (they broadcast the audio on a radio frequency) and make an event of it. Movie goers in pickups back in and set up picnics in their truck beds.
Most indoor theaters here are multiplexes in the casinos, and all have stadium seating and the latest technology, so we go the Drive-In to hang out together, watch the movie and take part in a different aesthetic: a quickly vanishing piece of Americana.
