I fail to see how this is any different than the way Steam has been operating for years. And with everyone constantly connected to the internet via phones, PC's and tablets, it only makes sense for the console industry to move in this direction. Even smart TV's, Blu-ray players and streamers need to be connected to the internet 24/7 to use Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime.
Steam also utilizes the cloud, even EA's Origin has started to take advantage of it. Sony is falling behind the times.
