The Corvette is built around a space frame, not a unibody. As such, it fairly easy to remove any and all structural elements from the roof area & still end up with a rigid car, a structural roof would help but its not critical. The unibody of the Camaro acts kinda like one big tube. You can't remove a section without substantially re-inforcing the rest of the car (unless you like having the car bend & twist & flex, in which case it doesn't matter).

I've been wondering why we don't get a targa top. Nice explanation. I would have paid for the option though.
