you can play online, upto 16 players (PS3) in different modes. besides the single or multiplayer free roam mode, some of others I know are:
team death match- play as a team to rob other teams. crew with the most cash at the end wins.
team mafia work-play as a member of a mafia contractor team. stealing, robbing, etc against time.
team car jack city-steal and drop off marked cars on the map w/o getting caught.
cops and crooks-team tries to get the boss to a safe area, while the cops are after teh boss.
turf mode-taking the bases on the map by disabling the gang.
coop modes:
hangman's noose-escort a guy to safety while being pursued by the PD.
bomb da base I & II
race modes:
multiplayer race-race to the finish through each checkpoint in order.
gta race-race and fight your way through the checkpoints (combat race).
so many other things that I haven't explored yet.
