Well maybe MJ broke down barriers when it came to something like MTV, (which BTW was originally a "ROCK" music video media, not "POP" music which is why they initially didn't play MJ's stuff).
But to make a blanket statement that he was the one that broke down barriers for black entertainers that I keep hearing is a little short sighted IMO.
That is to say that people like Cab Calloway, Chuck Berry, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, etc., etc., etc., had nothing to do with it???????? I'm sure you've heard of most of those people right?
Of course for those of you that were around in '77, the media made a circus out of Elvis' death as well.
