No, but I should have been.
In the Navy, deployed to Hawaii for a few days. Driving my the Det OIC's rental on the night we all have to be back on board to leave the next morning. We get lost and are going way too fast trying to find our way back to Pearl Harbor. At about 115mph I pass an unmarked car. As soon as I see his lights I pull over. He has me get out of the car, I explain the situation, tell him that if my OIC doesn't get the car back in time he will be in big trouble for being late and all my guys along with me will have to go to Captain's Mast... We weren't drinking, none of us had been. Turns out the officer was a retired Navy Chief and gave us a police escort back to the ship. We made it back with about 45 mins to spare and my OIC had 5 mins to spare after he returned the rental...... I still get nervous when I think about it.
Not just my career, but the risk of driving that fast with all those guys. All wearing seat belts. No excuses. Right or wrong, I'm not sure.
Bottom line: I should have been arrested.:(
