Sure we would.
We didn't bitch and moan to GM for the Camaro back just because of the Mustang's success. And GM isn't doing it as heavily retro as Ford did, which was hailed by many as the reason for it's success. So I think the Mustang had very little to do with it.
But I agree, no competition makes cars boring. Or at least, more boring then they should be. Look at the Mustang, right now: Ford could do so much better.
