Bowl games
Michigan has been invited to play in 39 bowl games in its history, compiling a record of 19–20 in those games. Before missing a bowl game in 2008, Michigan had made a bowl game 33 years in a row and had had a winning season for 40 straight years. They were not in a bowl game for 40 straight years because back in the 1960's and early 1970's, the Big Ten did not allow any of its teams to go to a bowl game other than the Rose Bowl. They would only send the champion of the conference to the Rose Bowl and everybody else would stay home for the holidays.
