Hahaha...

I don't know how many of you remember about this, or were affected...

But last September, when Hurricane Ike decided that he wasn't done with the coast and wreaked havoc all over the midwest, we lost power for 3 or 4 days in what became known as the Cincinnati Blackout...millions of people without power for days...

Anyways, I have this goldfish. Her name's Goldy, she's big, fat, lazy, but super smart...she knows her feeding times and will actually remind you to feed her if you forget (makes little popping noises at the surface of the water). I got her when I graduated from first grade...so that makes her about 11 years old. She's basically spoiled rotten.

So during the blackout, her filtration pump wasn't running...and naturally, she got all pissy because of that. After a day or two, I guess the oxygen supply in the water started getting kinda low since that pump wasn't running, and she started just moping around and sitting on the bottom of the tank.

The third day, I came downstairs and found her floating at the top of the water. I thought my 11 year old fish was dead and basically freaked out. I was a total mess until my mom poked her and she twitched a little bit. So we stuck her in a big bowl of fresh water and she seemed to recover a bit, but she was still swimming weirdly and wouldn't eat.

I actually ended up calling the veterinary clinic I work at and asking them what I should do...and all my coworkers probably thought I was absolutely insane for seeking medical help for a goldfish.

She ended up making a full recovery and is still swimming around to this day.

The weirdest pets I've ever dealt with at work? I've had a rat come in once. Someone tried to get us to treat a wild rabbit that he decided would make a good pet.
