If you can "rise above" that video, you should be able to see that what Jim Carrey is doing, is provoking gun owners on purpose. (and he is being obnoxious).
His goal obviously was to do two things: Mock someone directly to their face (which he did). Put what he really wants, is to see if his actions lead to some kind of chaos, or conflict.
I am very surprised he would make a video like that. But I also wonder if someone "higher up than him", was involved with that video.

That video is easy to explain. Carrey's ultimate goal was not to provoke anyone, but to create some buzz about himself. His career peaked over 15 years ago when everyone realized his acting talent was limited to cheap, low-brow comedy and toilet jokes, and the world gradually began to forget about him. He made this video more as a desperate attempt to get back with the Hollywood "in" crowd, and have people talk about him on TV and to him at parties again. Having neither the courage nor the talent to do anything of a serious nature, the result was a poorly made spoof of a dead man who had 100 times more talent and accomplishment than Carrey could ever have had in his wildest dreams.
Honestly, while a part of me is upset about Carrey's cheapest of cheap shots, a bigger part of me just feels pity for him.
