I've had a full size RI for a year or so now, very dependable, and my go-to pistol for home use, with a light/laser on the tac-rail. It's been 100% dependable with everything I throw at it... factory loads, and light & heavy reloads. Love it!
That spring may be all it needed... I personally wouldn't get too deep into modding a R.I.... it's cheaper to buy it already upgraded. If you do, aftermarket 1911 Colt & variants parts should work fine.
Shoot it and enjoy it for what it is, but that's just me
