Also, not saying this engine will be Cadillac exclusive forever, but GM may have wanted to develop an engine solely for Cadillacs. There are those out there who would rather their luxury sedan not be powered by a Chevrolet engine, as asinine as that sounds.
As of now there aren't plans (as far as I know) to use it anything but Cadillacs, so...
