All depends on which 454 you're talking about -- the LS6 or the LS5. The LS6 was a solid lifter motor (450HP) and the LS5 (360HP) was the hydraulic lifter version. Both were offered in 1970. In 1971, only the LS5 (365HP), with 5 more HP than 1970 (according to the factory) was offered.

I have an unmodified LS5 in my '70, factory rated at 360HP. I've never put it on the dyno, but if I had to guess I would say it's at least 400HP. This estimate is based on other cars I've owned or driven in the past -- like my '70 Monte Carlo SS454. I put a modified 502 BBC in it that dyno'd at close to 500HP at the wheels.

As for the LS6, I think 450HP was close to reality. Both 454's made 500 lb. ft of torque.
