As with the decades before the 70's, most of the cars in the 70's had styling personality. The main problem with 70's cars was the introduction of federal emission standards. The 1st generation emission equipment installed in cars at the time reduced exhaust emissions but they were inefficient. Compression ratios in car engines were lowered to help reduce emissions too. The combination of inefficient smog/emission equipment and lowered compression ratios meant LOW horsepower. A late 70's Z28 only had 180 horsepower.....from a 350ci engine. Cars also grew in the 70's and generally had poor handling. Many of the large sedans literally felt like land yachts going through water.

My first car was a 1978 Camaro Type LT, so 2nd gen Camaros will always be cool to me. Many people will strongly disagree with me though.
