I understand your point completely. And I agree with it! What one does in the spirit of one-upsmanship...benefits the consumers of the other as that company attempts to return fire with a better model.
For example - if not for the Camaro's LS3 out of the gate...The Mustang people may not be enjoying a 400+hp 5.0L. And alternatively, without the existence of the GT500...Camaro fans (quite like myself
) may not have had a ZL1 option to buy...So I get it - very clearly.
My point was simply that some others truly "Don't give a crap" what Ford does...A Camaro, of any performance or design, would be purchased by these people as though Ford didn't even exist. It's a small population, I think, but they're there, and they're proud regardless. That aspect I can relate to: I don't need the "best", I need a Camaro...but I appreciate the results of this back-and-forth between Ford and Chevy.
