Funny how surveys show the public blames gas taxes for high fuel costs. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon and the California gas tax is 36 cents per gallon. Thats only 18% of the cost of a $4.00 gallon of gas. If I drive 1,500 miles per month at 20 mpg thats only $40.80 per month contribution toward road maintenence and expansion compared to other monthly costs for me:
$100+ cell phone
$100+ water bill
$45 trash bill
$160-400 electric bill
At $40 per month its no wonder our roads are crap!
