I would think that if you retire you would not get severance pay anyway I thought you only get that if you get a layoff. As far as retirement at 57 how easy would it be for you to get another job? Are there jobs available in your field where you live? Not to mention it could be tough to start as a new employee somewhere else after 35 years at the same job. With that much seniority could you avoid the layoff?
