My guess is the SS model unveiled is intended to be a direct competitor to the Charger R/T, not the SRT8.
Charger R/T - 4253lbs. 370-hp
Chevy SS - 4000lbs. 415-hp (weight is a guesstimate, based on the 3995lb. G8)
I'm also guessing that an upgraded model will be released later that would be a more direct competitor to the SRT8.
It's not blind allegiance. I just think a lot of people will be surprised by its performance when they see it at the track for the first time, that's all.
