I agree with DG. 42 sounds way too low...should be in the upper 40s to near 50 given the gas engine ratings in the same car.

If the gas engine can get 39, a diesel should be able to achieve about 44 just on the energy content difference of gas vs diesel fuel alone. In addition, a diesel should be more thermodynamically efficient than the gas, not less.
