I'm not a huge fan of the paddle idea. Never had it, myself. But I'd be appalled to think any of my future kids would be getting it in school. uh-uh. Nope. I'd walk right up the teacher who did it and paddle the hell out of them.
On the other side of the coin - the side that I think balances the above: Parents need to take a more active role in their kids lives. Leaving them in front of the TV as a babysitter, or not reading to them, teaching them morals, etc. THAT's why things like this happen. Schools aren't fit to be the diciplinary role in kids lives, their families are.
