I've done a lot of historical Hawk 81 paint schemes for a combat flight simulator; the Hawk 81 was the plane the American Volunteer Group flew in Burma and China, '41 to '42
This is the sort of thing I do. Not often any more, it takes a lot of time, for me at least
I also did a few that were US Army, ex-AVG planes that were flown by the Army after the AVG disbanded on July 4 1942
