The other thing to keep in mind is that the Volt will save people roughly $2000 on gas each year while paying a fraction of it back for electricity. So, over the course of 5 years, thats around 10k in savings (assuming drop in battery performance is cancelled by an increase in gas prices). Plus there will be very few engine problems. Most of what you pay is up front for the Volt.
