Had to chime in here for a few benefits that we get from OnStar.
Cops can track it if stolen (like LoJack) and
they can slow it down if its moving and disable it when it stops. This gives lower car insurance rates as someone else mentioned.
With my smart phone, I can unlock the doors and have had to do so a couple of times for the wife. She doesn't have a smart phone.
I can check the mileage, oil life, fuel level and tire pressure with my phone. Those of you that knows what a pain it is to keep up with the wifes car can follow that. All it takes is the free app.
We don't but you could have phone minutes so if your wife broke down where cell phone coverage is shoddy, you could get thru with OnStar.
We just renewed the most basic plan (safe and sound) which only leaves out turn by turn directions for $149 for the year. We were previously in the free 6 month trial period.
We didn't but we could also do the Family Link. If you had a new driver in your family, this alerts your phone as to the whereabouts of the vehicle.
