If you can wire the speakers, Do it! You open up a lot more possibilities for equipment.
Some speakers I like that are affordable(ish) are: Definitive technologies, Polk, Jamo, Infinity, Klipsch, on and on...
Take some good cd's and dvd's to the store and listen to several brands. Everyone's ears are different.
