It's not necessary and as long as you eat, you will have energy, I eat at least 6 times a day and I have plenty of energy everyday.

Not completely true; you also need adequate sleep. Without sleep, you could eat as much as humanly possible and not have enough energy to get through the day. Lack of sleep (pulling all-nighters, long shifts at work, etc) is one reason people resort to energy drinks.
