Pretty sad when you can fit $17.50 or more into a motorcycle. Three and a half years ago, I filled an SUV that was down to 1/4 tank for about that.

California has very unique boutique fuel blends that very few refineries are setup to handle, which means losing just one refinery have about the same effect in California as the nation in general losing half of them (think when Katrina hit times 2) all at once.

And not just on price. All the additives and other special crap added to their formulations in all likelihood result in reduced miles per gallon compared to simpler formulations, so not only do you pay more per gallon, you go fewer miles on every gallon.
