I'm not discounting that the truck driver wasn't paying attention, but it's plausible that the truck would have come to a complete stop after that collision even if his brakes weren't working.

The trailers of the two trucks could have latched together and prevented them both from going anywhere else.



Either way, that Russian is a lucky guy.
