The average person in rural America will never be out of the hole with a Volt, I suppose some of the folks that live in a city may have a commute short enough to work, but that's the exception and not the rule. With a car like the Cruze, I can run my 500 miles per two week pay period on a single tank of fuel, fill up for about $50 twice a month, and make my $140 lease payment. In two years, if the diesel is out on the market, I'll jump at that.

Run math on the cost of ownership, I don't know what the lease payment deals are on the Volt currently, but I can also buy out my 1LT/RS Cruze for $17,xxx at the end of the 24 month and 30,000 miles lease, or walk away. My maintenance costs are $0.00 under dealership agreement, and the car gets detailed and waxed/sealed every 6 months until lease end. I make a payment and add fuel now and again. Very low cost to have and use. (Note: I did put $2,000 down to reduce the lease payment)

Whoever said the Volt is for someone who failed math class isn't the brightest bulb in the room. Unless they were selling the volt for $10,000 or under maybe just "Maybe" i see a better tree hugger
