Colorado's start at 17,500 for a regular cab, 2wd. For a 4wd I'd have to start the bidding at 21,000.
As for the camaro fund, at one point I had 7,600. Then Indy broke her hip and we ended up with 1,500 in medical bills. Then I lost my financial aid and ended up paying 2,100 to cover the balance of my last semester of school. That left me with 4,500. Which means that instead of having enough to order within budget (total financed really needs to be 14,000 or below for me to be confortable with the payment) in time for the 2011 my, now I was looking at 2012 at the earliest. Well, I was willing to swallow that, but I found a condo for sale for 31,000 here in town. I thought really hard on it and decided that I'd probably regret passing up the condo more than using up the camaro fund - after all, in a few years when I finish school, maybe I'll be able to afford one with a much lower down payment.
The big problem though is that my current car is a giant piece - I've had three serious, though inexpensive, breakdowns in the last two weeks. At the moment my feelings are a swirling mix of "get a GM while you still can," "do your part to help out," and "god I hate this piece of ****." Thus, my thoughts on buying the HHR.
