So I've been driving my truck the last few days and leaving the Camaro at home. It's just an old '93 Chevy C1500 with an LS 5.3L Swap and 4L60E. She's pretty rough these days but fun and reliable.
I'm getting on the interstate, busting through the gears (running the column shift like a manual). I get onto the interstate and she won't up shift. I figure I must still have it in 2nd, so I bump it up one. Won't up shift. Bump it up again and let off the pedal, no up shift. WTF...I figure by now I should only hit neutral.
One more bump, a pause....SCREEEEECCHHH.
Back tires lock up! Tach drops to 0. Pull it back to neutral and try to restart, no dice, key won't turn far enough. I coast to the shoulder. Back to park, two tries and she's back to life.
Ran fine all the way home. I think she took it alright. I'm sure the 4L60E with 125,000 miles on it could have did without that fiasco
Morale of the story...if your going to bang gears in an automatic, with no working gear shift indicator, no lockout on any gears, and a transmission that likes to do its up shifts on its own schedule at times....be sure to count your shifts!
Figured I'd share my idiot moment for the day.
Here she is, BTW. Sometimes I wonder if its time to retire the old girl. Old truck isn't in half as good a shape the picture would lead you to think.
