I personally feel the oversaturation of these "special" models actually diminishes owning a "special" model.

The Dan Gurney edition is nice, but at this point, it's just another "special" Mustang, the difference being the wheels, and decals.
Ford execs -
"How can we prolong interest in the Mustang?"
Marketing -
"Lets slap a different set of wheels and decals on it and make it a "Special _______" edition."
IMO, they need to focus on an answer to two cars which will really challenge it for supremacy on the street, the Challenger and Camaro. Decals and fancy wheels only get you so far.
