I'm still waiting for someone, somewhere, to point out a
non-boosted Ford V6 that puts out anything north of 330hp, particularly one that "gets 30mpg around town."

So far, all of the V6's mentioned in this thread that make 350+ horses have turbo or SC help.
Remember what the OP said: there was no lung on the motor (which would have been painfully obvious even to an untrained eye). It has everything to do with going too far over the 100hp/liter general rule for non-boosted factory motors that has been in existence for over 20 years: reliability.
You could likely put cams with lots of timing into a 3.7L Ford 6 and run premium fuel, but it probably wouldn't be very "streetable" from the factory, and likely wouldn't meet emissions. And it
certainly would not get 30mpg.
