Oshawa
is that 2nd plant. If I remember correctly, they were sending some half completed vehicles roughly 150 miles from London Ontario (the main Equinox plant) to Oshawa. That particular production line was near by & under utilized, an obvious choice for expanding Equinox production. But I'm betting that it was only ever intended as a temporary solution until they could get another plant tooled up to build them (like Sping Hill) and/or waiting until Impala production on that line ended to keep the workers as occupied as possible.

Alright, but aren't they splitting production of the XTS as well? Oshawa, in theory, has the capacity to build every single Cadillac sold. There isn't much of a need to have 2 plants building a thousand XTS's a month.
My guess is that GM is trying to hedge their bets regarding the Canadian dollar. If it gets too expensive to build up here (and they're on the cusp of that right now, and have been for a few years ... I think), they'll be able to shift some production to American plants.
