Imo, if you are wanting a .308 then go bolt action. Personally I wouldn't buy an AR10. They are just WAY too heavy and bulky and highly uncomfortable to shoot. If you really want a semi-auto .308 there are much better options out there albeit more expansive. The Scar 17s is really the only semi-auto .308 that I would think about buying.

Have you looked into a GAP 10 (made by GA Precision) or a Larue OBR? I believe there are a few documented 1 mile shots by the OBR (on a target, not a person). I also believe one of the more recent Ranger competitions sniping event was one by a team using the OBR. I might be wrong about the second part, but the semi auto 308 platform is coming on fast. The TAC teams where I work just went to GAP 10s from Rem 700s. The snipers I talked to said it wasn't as accurate as the REM 700 (with the same ammunition used in both) but said it was more than accurate for the job.
