The fact of the matter is the base model Z06 is still 20k more than the base model GT500. For them to be even competitive down the strip is a pretty big achievement for Ford. I mean we are talking about GM's halo car platform (notice I said platform and I'm not comparing it to the ZR1).
If by referring to the "old" Z06, then you must be implying the "new" Z06 as the Z06 with the performance package. Then no, the GT500 doesn't stand a chance. The Z06 w/PP is also $100K.
Hell if I ever hit the money, I'd be getting a Z06 with the PP. I'd send it straight to Late Model Racecraft and that would be all she wrote. It's an insanely good car.
However, when you look at bang for your buck performance, I don't think there's any doubt that the '13 GT500 is at the top of the list.

the c6 zo6 has been out for a long time. it is inevitable that eventually somebody will release a car that will be chasing its heels for less money. i'm not sure why that's surprising.
i eagerly await the release of the c7.
