I don't think anyone said the Shelby was faster on a track, at least they shouldn't have. Some did say that a few of the Camaro fans here will be surprised by the Shelby on the track, and I tend to agree with that.

I'm not saying the Shelby is going to be faster, however I don't think it's going to be the slug that some here seem to think it will be either.

At least we have some actual times for the zl1. But only if I understood more about road racing, I would realize how irrelevant these times are. I must be an expert to understand what's really going on. My father was an amateur racer in europe for a few years. Does this make me an expert? No, but I'm not a complete newbie either.
Exactly, which makes this conversation a non-starter at this point. Why talk about 'ring times when there are no published Shelby 'ring times to use for comparison?

Tell me, are you a professional race car driver? Do you spend a lot of time driving on the 'ring? Otherwise, I don't much see the relevance here. 'ring times are cutesy marketing fodder and that's about the extent of it. Personally, I think it's rather absurd to purchase a car based solely on its 'ring time, but to each their own.

They do things like play video games to learn the track. Or their use their own drivers. Like it's cheating or something. Who cares? Can't ford do the same thing?
You're missing the point. It seems GM went to the 'ring with the established goal of running times worthy of bragging about using any means necessary. Ford went there to develop and test the GT500, that's the difference. Two very different goals.

I'm waiting for some road track numbers from the shelby. Even though they will be totally irrelevant according to the experts here. Until then the only facts I have to go by are the ZL1's posted times.
You're beating a dead horse here. There's no point in having this discussion until someone takes them to the 'ring, or any other track for that matter, and compares them back to back. If you want to declare the ZL1 the end all be all of the track, despite the fact that we don't have a time for the Shelby, despite the fact that you yourself will never drive a ZL1 on the 'ring or be able to exploit one to it's full potential, and despite the fact that you're not a professional race car driver - then by all means, have at it.

To me, that sounds foolish, to put it politely.
