The Mayan calendar ending has nothing to do with "the end of the world." All it means is the start of a new era. As in "go find another rock to make a new calendar on."
People's wall calendars stop after January 2013 or so, does that mean that's the end of the world? We've gotten that wrong hundreds of times then.
Furthermore, the reason why educated, grown men, who live in a world with technology far more advanced than anything the Mayans could've dreamed of, believe in something a guy chiseled onto a rock forever and a year ago will always elude me.
