You don't need a friend at the station to get a copy of her dash cam. You can file through their Freedom of Information Act. All agencies have one or something similar.

All that is needed to detain you is Reasonable Suspicion and you matching the description gives them that.

But, to search your car a higher degree(Probable Cause) is needed. They could gather this from Plain View(seeing a gun, stolen items etc. or smelling marijuana).

It's all fun in retrospect but I am sure it wasn't funny when you were sitting in the back of the patrol car. And, it could definitely have turned out much worse.

I have had worse encounters one of which was being pulled over by the Border Patrol without any reason and detained for 42 minutes. And I was no where near the border they are supposed to protect. I was traveling on I10 which runs East/West from Florida all the way to California.
