Anyway you are using a little bit heavier C6Zand a little bit lighter GT500 that I am. But small variations in weight +/- 20lbs to account for slight differences (ie. ~0.4 or ~0.5 lb/hp) kinda supports my feeling that the margins are small. A full vs. empty tank of gas could swing the weight 50lbs. Anyway, my weight numbers are from Edmunds, though I do know my own C6Z came in at 3181. Granted the '12 could be a bit lighter than the 2011, but I dont have official curb weight specs.
But more importantly, beyond the specific cars in question, when you get into the realm of mid 11s or faster it takes more and more horsepower to gain less and less ET and trap speed, the relationship is less linear as well as other dynamics having a larger effect as well. The difference between a 13lb/hp car and 12lb/hp car is greater than the difference between a 9lb/hp and a 8lb/hp car despite both having a 1lb/hp difference. Im pretty sure you know this, but that is really why I think ~0.4 lb/hp is a slim margin... Not insignificant necessarily, but well within the proverbial "drivers race".
However, the over rev feature does change things I suppose, but how does the feature work? Can it over rev every gear in every situation? If so, and if the over rev feature can be used at will when one pushes it to 7K, then why not just advertise the redline and hp accordingly? If it is like the temporary overboost on some turbo cars then that is has its own considerations too, but I digress...
At any rate not arguing per se, just walking through my reasoning. I dont care enough to turn this into a C6Z comparo since I think the true glory days of this car was 3 or 4 years ago anyway, back when the GT500 still was anchored by an iron block engine. Besides, I agree with the fundamental point that the 2012 GT500 will run 11s anyway.
